Personal Writing
“It is not impermanence that makes us suffer. What makes us suffer is wanting things to be permanent when they are not.” ~ Thich Nhat Hanh
The other side of my writing is Write From Here. What started as a blog about writing became a personal story when Bob, my husband of almost 30 years, called me to say he was going to the hospital (March 2013). I began writing about fighting for his life.
Now I write about life without him, dealing with grief, fighting for my mental health, and the new normal life everyone says you’ll have one day.
Writing helped me through this journey. The surprising outcome is that I’ve learned my writing helped others.
People tell me they’ve begun thinking about the impact on their own lives if someone they love dies. It puts a totally different spin on the relationship you have in the present. Because, even if you try to deny it, death is part of life.
So I share my story. It’s grief and tears, but also good moments and many amazing revelations. Despite the pain of living without him, this was Bob’s gift to me, and hopefully his gift to you.
I’ve also written informative, and ultimately uplifting, articles related to grief for online publications.
